Jakarta, JMC—Every year Jubilee SMP conducts a field trip to Yogyakarta. Unfortunately, this year there were some students who were unable to join this trip. As an alternative experience, these students were taken to Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII), East Jakarta. The plan was to have them visit the anjunganYogyakarta, so that they could still learn about this great city from visiting its miniature version.
On the morning of 22 April 2010, 18 students of Grade 8 Jubilee SMP gathered in school to start the journey to TMII. Two teachers, Ms Nuriza and Ms Althea Sutedjo (SMP teachers) also came along to chaperone. Upon arriving at TMII, they decided to make a brief detour to Pusat Peraga Ilmu Pengetahuan dan Teknologi (PP IPTEK). In there, the students got to observe and experience many props designed to aid students in understanding scientific principles. The students got to try and really enjoy the earthquake simulator.
Next, the SMP group visited the anjungan Yogyakarta. There they met with the designated guide, Bapak Ngatimin and learned many new things about keraton and the Javanese culture. The group was led into the anjungan where they got to see an antique black marble bed donated by the royal family of the Yogyakarta monarchy. Another interesting artifact was an antique set of gamelan that used to belong in the Yogyakarta Keraton. At noon, the group went back to JubileeSchool brimming with knowledge and a better understanding of the Javanese culture. (Piet/JMC)
