Jakarta, JMC— On Tuesday, 6 April 2010, Grade 11A students from Jubilee School’s FEP  7-12 went on a field trip to visit Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) located in East Jakarta. Trips such as this are designed to achieve the learning goals as described in the students’ program of study. Ten students from the Science stream, accompanied by their Chemistry teacher Ms Widya Hantini, visited the IPTEK (Ilmu Pengetahuan dan Teknologi) Museum which is better known as PP (Pusat Peragaan) IPTEK.

As soon as the students arrived at TMII at 9.45 AM that morning, they immediately went to the PP IPTEK building. There, they actually practiced using instruments and apparatus related to the Science topics they were studying currently; Light, Energy, Pressure, Electricity, Mechanics, Space, etc. They also had a chance to try the earthquake simulator and the Van der Graaf generator which is an electrostatic generator capable of producing a voltage of over a million volts. The students also took the opportunity to learn about the factors which make a water rocket fly high.

The students enjoyed their informative study tour to TMII, whereby they gained a better understanding of science through experiential learning. They were able to actually observe and prove certain scientific laws by using the instruments provided in PP IPTEK. (Piet/JMC)
