DSC02317.JPG The ITCEE 2010 was held on the 3rd and 4th April in one of the prestigious five star hotels in Jakarta. This year, the main theme for the conference revolved around the professional development of teachers and how the quality of education can be improved simply by upgrading the teachers’ qualifications and training.
Many noted speakers and dignitaries such as the Vice Minister for education, Mr. Fasli Jalal, senior representatives from the various departments of DEPDIKNAS and major sponsors were present to ensure the success of the proceedings. This conference was not only for the participants to share and exchange ideas about education, but, it was a venue for many educational organizations to set up their stalls in order to promote their products or programs. Herein Jubilee School took part with zest and fervor.
DSC02323.JPG Jubilee School made a major contribution to the opening ceremony when two groups of students from the primary school and junior high school bedazzled the audience with their vibrant and very professional renditions of traditional Indonesian dances called Tari Betawi and Tari Saman. The performers from Jubilee were dressed in bright, colorful costumes and when they performed on stage the audience was enthralled to see how such young children could dance with faultless synchronization and perfection. The performances by both groups DSC02325.JPG were well appreciated and made the mood lighter for more serious work to be done for the remainder of the day. After their performances, the students came out of the hall excited and elated at having done such a great job and were congratulated by Ms. Marcella, Ms.Daisy Lukman and Ms Yuanita who had been by their side all the while in preparation for this program. I can say with conviction, that our students and their teachers were excellent ambassadors for Jubilee School and their performances will be remembered by all who saw them.
Outside the main conference hall the atmosphere was festive and colorful with all types of stalls set up displaying their products and programs. Jubilee School had the best vantage point of all because the stall was located just next to the main door of the conference hall. A bright, attractive backdrop was the center piece of Jubilee’s booth. The banner displayed vital information about the school’s academic and curricular programs in addition to many pictures showing the various curricular and co-curricular activities carried out in the school. In addition, the stall was furnished with an LCD TV on which a wide array of videos depicting Jubilee School’s activities and events were played. On the table, a large variety of printed material was put on show in order to provide information to visitors to our stall. Jubilee Media Centre did a great job in providing school magazines, newsletters, pamphlets and school profiles to display and distribute. In addition, brochures promoting the Cambridge International Certificate for Teachers and Trainers and ESOL programs were also on hand to give out to interested parties.
The stall was manned by the representatives from JTEC and CICTT who diligently distributed material and information about the school’s programs. Most of the stalls were quiet until lunchtime when there was a mad rush towards Jubilee’s stall. Teachers and educators from all parts of Indonesia flocked to our stall to gather information about the CICTT. Ms Josephine, Ms Farkhanda and Ms Anita had to work speedily in order to satisfy all the questions the visitors were asking. The school management was also represented by Bapak Haris Rahim and Ms Suriani who were helping bring prospective “customers” to the stall.
The highlight of the afternoon came when the Vice Minister for Education Bapak DSC_0041.JPG Fasli Jalal visited our stall and took an exceptional interest in the unique and one of a kind teacher training program that Jubilee was offering. He had an in depth conversation with Ms Farkhanda [JTEC] about the aims and objectives of the training. Because Ms Farkhanda is a graduate of the first batch of CICTT, she had personal experience of the training and was able to satisfy any queries the Vice Minister had. Our brochures, pamphlets and badges were in high demand and traffic to our stall was consistently high for both days of the exhibition.
Educators from far off areas such as Kalimantan and Sumatra visited out booth and showed a sincere interest in the teacher training being offered. On the second day of the exhibition, Dr Rubina, the Program Leader of CICTT, had important and significant conversations with fellow educators and trainers from all over Indonesia. Of note was the one hour long discussion she had with Ibu Diah Harianti, the head of Curriculum Design at DIKNAS. Ibu Diah promised to attend the training and see for herself the benefits of the CICTT. On day two also, Jubilee’s representatives at the stall, Ms Farkhanda, Ms Nia, Ms Neena, Ms Kiky and Ms Althea were kept on their toes catering to the queries from interested parties.
To conclude, this was a great forum in which to share information and ideas and to make new friends from all over the world. Jubilee School’s participation in the dance performance and the stall was a success. I know that a lot of interest in the CICTT was generated as a result of the publicity and promotion at Jubilee’s stall. (Rubina)
